Very dissapointing

   the 5000 has definitely earned it's reputation as a heavy boat,but it's also a great boat to sail very rewarding and very good fun. It'd also very cheap now, I've seen some good ones going for £1000 on ebay.What else can you get with that kind of performance and reliability for such a cheap price ?

	The 5000 was still a fairly rapid boat, managed to beat a Beiker 2 in it, on py aswell, 18 footer also lost out.............A real bugger to take up the slip-way though Edited by 49erGBR735HSC

	Same sail area, same weight once you weigh up things topper had forgot to, 5000 1 py number quicker than the Boss before topper tried to turn it into a 49er, 5000 still rapidly quicker. Basic difference was the 5000 was a I14 killer and the Boss was a very poor imitation of a 14 in my experience. Also you could sail the 5000 for years and years without it breaking, the Boss's that I knew were always getting fixed and not really sailing.

	Hopefully the same guys who done the 3000, Les told me at the weekend they had to dumb the 4000 down to make it slower than the 5000, hope Vandercraft sort that out and also hope they've got the 5000 moulds

	(and by the way, I don't work for Ovington Boats, just felt the booklet was very mediocre, and remember looking at it about 10 years ago and pictures of Laser 5000s and lateraly 4000s gave me a real inspiration to get good at sailing. My general moan is with Laser for dropping the 4000 which, in my opinion, is the best boat Laser have made since the Laser) Edited by 49erGBR735HSC

	I picked up my Yachts & Yachting pretty recently and there was a LASER catolougue inside and by my assumptions, they have stopped producing the Laser 4000, and resorted to poor excuses for boats that enhance retail turnover. Back in 1994, I looked at that catalouge, decided that one day I wanted to saill a Laser 5000. Where is the inspiration for the "youth of today"? Sorry Laser but a Dart 16, or a Laser 2000 (even alrhough the 2k is a very nice boat!) doesn't cut it. Hope to God that the next publication includes something from Ovington!
