As for the price I doubt existing designs will be reduced intially, the consumers have already shown their willing to pay that price, but as newer boats come in at lower level, this could have an effect on existing prices. I believe that this desire to reduce labour costs is the main driving force behind the move to roto-moulding. What consumers should worry about is the effect that shipping these products inside an extremely hot container on the deck of a ship in the tropics will have.

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

RMW do build most of the RS range I thought that was why we were all talking about Brazil as they have just moved there!

I have to say i would be a bit worryed about boats saging a bit in the hot containers. It realy depends to what temp the boats are post cured to?  As I know the Ovington 49er's only go up to about 35c and containers can get a lot hotter than that.

no one as you cant buy RS boats from anyone else! unless LDC who sell the RS range had been looking for someone cheaper than RMW. thus there move to Brazil.

I was thinking model vs model such as golf/focus as this tends to be how newcomers view getting into the sport.

Good on 'em if  it turns out to be a sound business decision, like as not, we have to face facts that much of the higher cost involved in our sport is driven by the fact that many of the parts we need/want for our boats are made in very small volume, extensively by hand and by small, specialist companies.  I like the craftmanship and hope it continues, I for one will always be happy to pay more for a bit of nice looking wood on a boat, but for mass market fittings, GRP/FRP hulls and alloy or composite spars, a bit of 'offshore' low cost manufacturing may not hurt - as long as some of the saving is passed on to us the consumers

The one thing they'll have to watch is the time it will take to bring hulls from S.America by sea because long lead times are very much the norm.... not good hearing "it's somewhere between Brazil and Rotterdam" when you phone to ask where your new boat is a week or two before the nationals!!

There is an exciting new development on the horizon.  Sorry this is a bit cryptic, but I believe a press release will be out at the end of this week.

Not another new boat please!!!! and don't try to sell us on a  topper style different boat by putting new rig on old roto-moulded hull job either!

ooooo. An exciting new development, right folks lets get guessing, there will be a prize for the closest and most ridiculous suggestion (this statemnt is not legally binding ).

Is it that RS have done a secret deal to produce the two new supercarriers for the navy?

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!
