For me it has to be...
1. Ovington I14-just utterly gorgeous and some really clever fit out ideas 2. Paintcraft Contender-so nice I really could not sail it, imagine dragging a hook across that deck! 3. Redeye Solution-not in the same league as the 14 but for a first go really well thought out and a quality of finish much better than some other SMODS, I hope it does really well. I agree. The Ovi int 14 was really something special, i also thought the Aardvark national 12 looked pretty damn cool aswell.....I was quite intrigued by seeing the 12 foot skiff association there this year....no boat sadly but hopefully next year

Out of the whole show this has to be my favourite part....
![]() The focus point on the mirror was supposed to be the new tin mast, but this did not go un-noticed! Does anyone know if this is class legal? I would have thought that advanced composites were banned in a class like the mirror. Brilliant ![]() |

never mind if its banned, whats the point? I'm not sure it'll make any real difference to the pitching moment of boat

I agree that it was the best thing at the show, but I am biased as it was my son's boat on display. The hoop is legal as there is no "exotics" rules for the mirror. I actually made it myself by wet laying up some carbon around a bike innner tube; and it cost next to nothing to make. Although it hardly weighs anything, I agree it has no advantage over other solutions typically used, i.e a wooden hoop, or a fibreglass shute, but I think, and the comments seem to confirm this, that it looks better, and that was the main point when I made it!

Well hats off to you sir... I was very impressed. Much better than the carbon floor plate on the flying 15!!
![]() Did you brown parcel tape the inner tube at all before you laid up around it or is it still inside? Just thinking that the technique could be usefull in the new build... |

the lay up was Inner tube, half inflated then spayed with WD40, then 3 layers of 50mm carbon fibre strips epoxy wound around the tube, then wrapped in nylon cloth, then cling film, then pump up the tube. Strip everything off then rub down and varnished with2 pot to make it shiny. Got the idea from a friend who makes F1 steering wheels- but these cost a few quid more!

Reminds me of the first chute on my Mirror as a boy. my paper round wouldnt stretch to fancy fibreglass chutes so i made one out of a babys potty with the bottom cut out. Worked a treat.
