Villan,
The 300 is just like riding a bike for the first time without the stablizers! after a few times you'll get used to the sensitive movements and you can always sit far back to stablize the boat and gradually work your way forawrd as you improve. Not only that the wings give lots of stability once they hit the water - although this is slow! There's been plenty of times when the gunwale been well submergered and all you do is hike out and up she comes and the water runs out the back. Check out the web site for test sails and get in contact with someone near you - they're all a friendly bunch! It only then after trying the boats that you can make an imformed choice of what you really want and what will suit you.
Good luck.

I'll have a look around for a 300 in the area, and will try a blaze soon.
edit: Hmm, i might give a Vareo a try .. has anyone had any experience with them? Edited by Villan |

Cool .. ok.
How easy is it to get used to helming with the spinni up? How well do you do when up against lasers in a f2 / 3? How stable is it when not moving .. (compared to a pico or topaz) and does the stability pick up when you get moving - eg: enough that you dont make a fool of yourself when sitting on a start line? |

it is about the same as the laser for stable it the same speed as a laser up wind but its about the same speed as a rs400 down wind it is the fastes one man boat with out a trapezs down wind in the uk the huydos fole moths now go faster
when you get the poweer in the kite it is veary stable but it takes a sertan art to beable to gibe it in any thing over 20knts as there is so much to do for one person but you soon get used to it apert from down wind it is like a laser to sail but just a bit faster then you get the kite up and the boat takes off as the kite is biger than an rs200 one
any thing els you want to know Edited by 5420 |

How much does a good (or cheap) 2nd-hander go for?
As its not too different from a laser, I might go for it. How comfortable is it to hike from? Would you suggest hiking shorts? is 65kg a competitive weight, or would i need to put on weight for this boat as well? dics - thanks for the reply, I have a feeling that the 300 would be overkill at BLYM, and the daggerboard would have a lot of meetings with the bottom of the lake .. most of which probably wouldn't do it any good ![]() Edited by Villan |

I don't remember planing upwind, but I wasn't the best! It does go well to windward tho, and offwind it's awesome, faster than a 400 if they cant use the kite, and faster than a less skilled 400 even with it. I used to beat the average 400's on the water in most club races, and once planed past Paul Bayliss in his 400 (white sails only) like he was not moving (despite a huge luff), and he's good.. |

Villan, re the Vario, it's a stable hull form, but there's a fair bit of sail on a narrow hull if you get it wrong with the assy up, they can theafore be a bit unforgiving at first. You'll soon get the hang! They are pretty popular and the hold their value, so you won't get a cheap one, but you should get your money back when you sell. They can be hard to sail to handicap, depending on the course: windward/leeward, fine, but if you can't use the spinni, they aren't much faster than say a Laser, but with a fairly quick handicap. Some clubs give them a better number if they use varied courses. I think it's a Morrison design, ie a good shape, and a very nice boat, but IMHO better for class racing than h/cap, tho probably enough fun that it's worth a try anyway. RS have a demo boat at HISC which I enjoyed trying! Nearly forgot! They seem to think 11 1/2 stone is about ideal, tho they seem to carry weight well. For a lighter person, see comments above: you might find it a bit unforgiving at first. Edited by Rob.e |
