Villan - The official line must always be to try one. You are at the lighter end of the 'ideal' weight range but you would not be alone at 65kg - there are a few. (We generally say 70-95kg but that is a central range only) You would suffer a bit when it blows but would have plenty of revenge in lighter marginal conditions ! The stayed rig allows a lot of personalisation (read depowering !) so you might take to it . Come along to the stand at the Dinghy Show and arrange a try out in one somewhere. The other alternatives could obviously include the Int. Moth if you'd like an alternative performmance singlehander challenge that would really suit your weight. Alternatively get on the helm of something like a N12, Fireball or (my favorite) the underrated Tasar with a medium sized crew and fly. Either that or a pie 'n' beer diet for a year or two ! Have to say try the Tasar if you can. I had a go in oe about 2 years ago, they certainly fly for their size and with that rotating mast.....(and the handle)...
Just an observation...we Blaaze(rs) seem to be outnumbering Chrub-ites tonight..... There is a god! :-) |

Out of interest what would you term "medium sized" in that context, mike? |

The minimum crew weight permitted without correctors is 130kg in the Tasar. Don't go too far over that and you will fly ! (But is will carry competitively up to something like 150kg). So that's 2 x 65kg by my reckoning or any other reasonable combination .... It's another of those boats that seems ot generate a lot of opinions - a few even come from those who have sailed them ! But it is (like the Blaze of course ...) worth trying because it is so good and THEN commenting ... pity someone like Ovington did not grab the class in the UK years ago. Blaze '720' |

jeffers - I sail at BLYM in Rickmansworth (herts)
Blaze-720 - there is 1 n12 at my club, but its VERY old (but ive tried it, and its good fun) Main reason im looking at a blaze is im getting a bit .. bored ... of lasers, and i'm after something a bit different. I considered a moth, but they are WAY too tippy for me. Taser / fireball .. unknown on either count. The problem with doublehanders is - you need a commited helm or crew, and i have neither of these. Hence the want for a singlehander. I'll give a blaze a try, and maybe a supernova .. but i'll probably still go witha blaze, even just for the learning experience. Never know .. it might swing me round to Moths in a few months / years time |

Are you getting a new one? (you said you'd ordered one). If you're in Scotland, thats a good choice, as they're partic active up there! Good luck, you'll love it.
