Had a go in one yesterday...very impressed!  Though it was really quick downwind, until I went upwind, and realised it was just really quick whatever.

Managed to get stuck in irons coming out of a gybe (yep, a gybe!).  I'm guessing that to start with racing these is just simply a matter of NOT SWIMMING...took me ages to get it back up again!

Nice boat and respect to anyone who can sail it well.

Hi Iain,

Glad you enjoyed it.

I was amazed when I got into irons on a dead run as well - normally caused because you lost too much speed during the gybe and lost the apparent wind stalling out all of the sails - dumping  the kite and getting the main working is the quickest way to get going again..

Similarly there's techniques to speed up the recovery - dump kicker and main, you only need to partially drop the kite - use the Assy sheets to get more leverage etc....

You are always close to the edge sailing these high performance boats, but then that's part of the challenge.  The big grin bit's in between more than make up for it

Where were you sailing?

Ian

Erm...I did'nt even have the kite up at the time!!

I was sailing at Draycote, it was a nice day for it, if a little cold!

Great racing at Bough Beech yesterday.  3 or 4 700s and 2 MPS, not to mention at least 2 800s.  I was the mug on the power boat organising it - damn cold.

I think the 700 looks gr8. Although am weirdly drawn to the MPS. Mainly because some scalliwag has said i could have a go! But they do fly and with someone at the helm such as Mr Andy Peake (former inlands champ) there is no stopping them!
