I hope it is the Swift you were refering to. The Voodoo just hit the water for the first time last week. It is a little early but they sound like they'll ramp up soon.
The class web site is Swift Solo Home. I'll PM you they link for a video so that we don't hijack someone else's band width with thousands of hits. Edited by TeamFugu |

Sorry Fugu, but I think we know he's referring to the Voodoo. Our website will be up this week, probably Monday or Tuesday. We'll have all the specs, some pics and a vid there for you to see at www.voodooskiff.com

Dan, First thing I should say is thet the Voodoo certainly looks like a fast piece of machinery. I look forward to seeing one in Australia one of these days. I have just finished stripping the waterline of my Swift Solo and attach a couple of photos. As you can see it is very different to the Voodoo especially in the front 1/3 of the waterline. It will be interesting to compare the performance on the water. Anyway I've got to get back to the garage to continue work on "my beast" |

As a wooden boat sailor who is too cowardly to sail any of these boats (I have my hands full with a 1960's sliding seat ToY) I have to say the Swift Solo in those on the stands pics just looks amazing. Whether she is faster, or otherwise, who cares, just to be sailing a boat that looks that pretty and yet still is up there with the fastest bits of gel coat around must be a great feeling.

But not only that, today linear polyurethane is harder to scratch and its shine is longer lasting than gelcoat as a top covering. The Swift will not get soft wing roots or heel dents in the deck and wings or lose its shroud tension after a day out as it gets a few years old. I think my swift will last me a lot longer than my 49er did and look a lot better at the same age. Ive managed to take a pound or more out of the rig, I've had a lot of fun working out how to do that. I think I might be able to get more out of the rig and sails later. The blades are unbelievably light. All Ive got to do now is shed a few of my own pounds. But thats what skiff sailings for Eh! |

Is it just me or does the swift-solo look like a widened 29er with a bit more sail area..............? (29erXX may prove a bit of a challenge, before you consider UK 14s and 49ers Edited by 49erGBR735HSC |

Dennis, As I'm sure Bram would confirm he used Bethwaite hull design as inspiration when designing the Swift Solo. He is an ex 49er sailor himself, I think he may have been president of NA class association. His design is different to a Bethwaite hull in a number of ways, the chines curve inward a little at the transom which allows the gunwale to be angled as well so that you have a better trap position at the rear of the boat. (Bethwaites always keep the chines dead straight) There is also a little more fullness in the bow to prevent pitchpole issues. |
