Um, that's already in. Saturday morning, from 8am, watch BBC Interactive online/ Freeview 3*/Satellite and Cable Four. Schedule's a bit up in the air at the moment due to rain, those channels may be wrong.

For 2012, the venue is still to be finallised, but they're trying for a venue in Essex. It was first held at the Atlanta games in 1996.

I've got it...IOC is keen for new events to have appeal to 'da yoof' as watching a 57 year old flogging a star boat round the course in 8 knots or a 61year old in the showjumping is not exactly revlevant or accessable..

In the winter olympics you have an event (cant' remember what it's called) which involved x-county skiing, then stopping for a bit and shooting at targets, then doing some more skiing etc.

Bringing that bang up to date and 'summerifying' for 2012...then we should equip the BMX kids with uzis, and then they can do

"BMX Drive-By Shooting"..

This one is not allowed. The event must be "Bristishness". If I recall correctly, this event was included by the Australians in the Sydney 2000 Olympics!

Bring back Tug-Of-War.

 

In fact, how about a Village-fete themed "hexathalon"* team event. Tug-of-War, 50m Egg-and-spoon, 50m Sack, 100m Wheelbarrow (over a 50m course, swap postions at the half-way mark), welly-wanging and standing long-jump.

 

*or possibly sexathalon, though with ~100,000 condoms used in two weeks by about 16,500 athletes, I think that event is already covered. So to speak.
