See if you can find a cast off 49er top mast, apparent;y the Olympic boys change em regularly. Then glue it onto yr tree trunk.

Thats my old 49er main, and no it didnt have any battens. The sail was ok, but was to be used as a spare in case I leapt through the newer ones.
So Andy_Cherub obviously dontated it to you Strawberry?
I'd definately suggest chopping the tree and bolting in something a bit more flexible at the top to match the luff curve. If you cant find a 49er top section, try an old windsurfer mast and bolt on some spreaders. FYI the luff curve on the 49er starts at the lower spreaders.

I think you can get a roll of batten plastic from Ovi boats so you can cut it to the length you want. I'd put the boat on its side, look at it with a sail maker and possibly cut the sail back if its worth trying it.
