Yeah JP that would be good but believe me whaam wont really compare with the speed machines with racks, double trap, massive asymmetric etc.......although for 150 quid i think its a pretty good deal!

Shame we have had to make the repair visible though becuasse the original 'invisable one' broke so the deck is now not very nice but im sure itll do its job. And the repair wont affect the sailing as the below waterline reapir is great!

I'll be down there on Sunday! I'm one of the rescue boat people that day, trying to get down on Saturday as well to see the Cherubs but still waiting to find out if that's gonna be possible..

Well, I'll be in Dangerous Strawberry. You can't miss it, it's bright red and has strawberrys painted all over it and the tallest mast in the fleet  (if you don't include Sweet Dreams, haha) so come over and say hello cos it will be cool to put names to faces. Also, I'm more than happy to take anyone for a go, aslong as you don't mind my sh*t sailing and lot's of swimming.

Haha does that mean you'll be giving me something to do on Sunday Strawberry? If I manage to get down on Saturday I might ask for a go, I'm looking into getting a new boat and people keep telling me I should get a Cherub but I've never seen one..

Posted By: Strawberry

It's fine, i do lots of swimming, and lots of trying to fix stuff on the boat. So it looks like I need rescusing, but it's all good. If I need help you'll know bout it, trust me.

If anyone's going down to Chew from the Oldland/Keynsham area of Bristol on Saturday and could give me a lift I'd be really grateful! I kinda rely on parents for lifts and they're over the other side of the country in the morning..

Aww, sounds like everyone was crewless!  (Anyhow, just think, being on your own is better than having me as a crew - you'd be pitchpoling everytime you even went remotely downwind!!! )

And you tell him Ben! Being in a rib is a very important job, it's an excuse to point and laugh at everyone who capsizes!

what kinda time was it you capsized jp? there were a couple of times when about 3 people decided to capsize at once, all in different places and we were only using one boat! just need people to co operate and capsize in the same place

I'm not sure what was going on then. It's suprisingly hard to spot boats sometimes, it's a big lake to cover! Sorry bout that. I know it's annoying, I capsized and lost the rudder on my laser a while back and couldn't do anything and it took aaages before the safety boat got to me!

Yep, I did Jim.

Never sailed in a boat with such a distinctive on/off switch for the turbo!

Ah, but the turbo is never permanently on: big waves, hoists, mark roundings, tacks, gybes, gusts and lulls, shifts, all the rest of it. Getting the afterburner lit as soon as possible and keeping it there are among the key skills of the class.

The two recent multiple champions have been subtly different in that respect. Andy Paterson is the master of keeping the boat going - when the lulls come or whatever Andy seems to keep going lower/higher (according to up or downhill) and faster than those around him.

On the other hand Dave Roe, the king of the 90s, every now and then would find another level of reheat. You'd be working your ass off, getting all the shifts, catch right up to his tail, and then, suddenly there would be what one of the guys called a "Dave-Roe-Get-Out-of-Jail-free-gust" and he'd be gone again.

Yyyyyey!!! We've converted jools to are loserish way of life - good to see you with us (clueless - yes ben that'd be me ) luverrly sailors!! The pics are very good by the way, just admiring them!

And talking of turbo, I don't think the battery was charged on ours ! Every time we capsized, the boat nearly sank under all the water! I could tell the helm wasn't best pleased (but he was awesome anyhow) cos it was my fault nearly every time!!

Yeah the turbo was great fun, although it was pretty wet upwind, just add's to the atmosphere! I was pretty suprsied we didnt capsise all day, probably due to ed's good helming although even when it was very windy and me and Ben put the kite up we still didnt quite manage to capsise it!

did you ever expect to stay dry sailing a skiff france? we did come pretty close to capsizing a couple of times, some good teabagging! that and nice slippy decks and even slippier boots  and nearly sank doesn't count until the boat's less than 3 inches above water and you're swiming around it  that wasn't me, that was a friend.. honest..

Posted By: TheSeaFalcon
Date Posted: 06 Sep 05 at 8:45pm

Aw! You sound like a real pro ! Yeah, I'm sure the helmsman (men) and crew(s) were doing a great job 24/7, but personally, I think the more times you fall in, the better you are... joke!

Talking of getting wet, me n Lucy chatted non-stop while we were sailing, and at one point I opened my mouth to speak, and found it full of water as we ploughed into a beauty of a wave! I guess I should keep my mouth shut more often !!!

Talking of getting wet, me n Lucy chatted non-stop while we were sailing, and at one point I opened my mouth to speak, and found it full of water as we ploughed into a beauty of a wave! I guess I should keep my mouth shut more often !!!

yeah, if you don't fall in occasionally you're not trying hard enough my problem is falling out  i managed to swallow lots of loch water last month, sailing upwind, 4up in a dart 16, force 5 or 6, hiking off the back and your whole body slamming into the waves and you can't see anything.. it's a great feeling! even better when you realise you're getting paid to do it think i scared the other guys.. i know i did when we got in and told them i'd never sailed a cat before, one of them went completely white

LOLLOLLOL - that sounds hilarious ben!!! Um, jp, it was kinda dark blue and said SPOT ON! on it - congrats on the steering, cos if you'd hit it I think the helm would've had a hissy fit!!!

And ginger......you wish!

There's quite a queue for Halo: I should have set the price higher.

But don't get too excited about boat speed: it takes a while to get to the stage where boatspeed makes much difference. Keeping the boat upright, keeping it flat, quick hoists and drops, finishing every race, not to mention the standard stuff like going the right way up the beat, all that stuff makes a lot more difference in your first season than boatspeed.

Will take some pics soon, little bit of tidying needed but generally ready to go, looks good. Old rig but just what I need to break me in. Boat speed wont my first concern, keeping the mast above the hull will probably me the first major concern.

Cool, im hopefully comeing down but i mioght not be able to becuase my parents might not be ale to take me !

Yeah i was thinking as soon as saltford stops sailing for the winter or anytime soon, we really have to get racing whaam, its the only way to get really good at sailing a boat! It really doesnt matter if we loose!

I'd quite like to helm, thinking about it...although maybe on a nice calm day when we won't be going anywere at turbo speeds!!  If that's okay with the captain and first mate...??!
