Yeah amazing idea try and get as many on the CLUB topper as we can (Rich is a good idea, hes really light lol). We tryed that at a bristol avon sc regatta and the topper was nearly sunk and then we managed to complete a dry capsise with three people staying dry lying on the gunales |

think how many people you could get on an 18 footer at once, couldn't sail it but i reckon a good 60 or so would fit

Mint! Oh, yeah you know the topper sail, some of them hang under the boom (by like 2 inches or so) but mine doesn't even touch the boom (well, not really)! Have I done something crazily wrong to it??! |

No it might be a feature of the new design sail or a very very stretched one with full downhaul on !

Compared to my old sail, it's true that the new sail is much flatter. Still, I adjust the downhaul (a bit), to avoid creases. The outhaul and kicker are the best way to control the shape of the sail. It all depends on the wind and where you're going. From what I gather, you want your sail much flatter going upwind than going downwind. If it's really windy, the sail is better flat; in light conditions, you want a nice bulge

Ellie no if ur sail is above the boom you have rigged it right, everyone else i knows seems to be above the boom and if it went below the boom they really need to yank on the halyard to pull it up...............this person may not realise you are allowed to make a halyard 2:1 so it might be harder for them to get the sail up.

Get the new halyard solution- dont have one, use a bit of rope- now legal and much better. When it's windy (when your overpowered) upwind you want as much downhaul as possible (6:1 purchase helps alot, even if you think you don't need it- I was proved that i needed it recently In other winds where you are looking for power experiment to get the fastest shape. Btw used my new sail today- quite liked it, i reckon it is better than hydes when the breez picks up but suffers slightly upwind in vvery light winds. |
