Yeh andy ill measure the length from the pole to the mast for you, no problem!

Yeh the spice kite is hard to sailing tight angles but it certainly does fly in a breeze!! The boat is brilliant in anything over a 3/4!! - definetly under rated as a boat but if topper were to allow redevolpment of the hull then it would fly - the shapes fine just the construction makes it very heavy!! - It took three of us to lift the bare hull of the spice, whereas 2 of us can lift the fully rigged 14!!

Redback it depends on the size of your crew. The Spice was supposed to be for "lightweights", but we sailed on 135kg approx combined weight and found that although it was easy to depower, we could have used more weight comfortably in a blow. I reckon you'd be OK up to 150 easily - more if you avoided the light stuff - which is not what 2 wires is for.....

re the kite - size isn't everything  - the Spice kite is not made for sailing tighter angles which the L4K can probably cope with a little better, on the other hand when it catches a gust it bears off massively and flies

yer i think that it could be quite a nice boat given a chance but the class association hasnt had an event in ages and not many boats were sold i think!!   but would be a great club racer and it is cheap to buy second hand

I'm getting more impressed with the Spice the more I read about it.  It has a bigger kite than my 4000.  I do remember a most helpfull and enthusiastic guy at Ally Pally on the Spice stand.  This sounds like a seriously under rated boat, although at 88kg I'm probably too heavy for it.

Fantastic - cheers bud! Would it be possible to measure the length from the end of the pole when fully extended to the front of the mast?

Cheers

hehe, yup - the B14 kite rules! Gets me twinin in a Force 1! But can only run very deep.

OH OH OH - spice sailors, is it true the rig is 15.9sqm? if so - what is the luff length and foot on both main and jib? And does anyone have a decentish full rig for sale end of july?

GREAT - yes it was going down the cherub route! haha!! Im not keen on the 800 kite as there are no shoulders, where as the spice does. Im a student - spending all of my left over overdraft on my new boat - so gona get new rules rig cheap til I can re-build my loan! haha!

PS - does anyone have a spice kite for sale under £100?

LOL yeh i forgot that point, there aint that much of a diference i was just comparing the shape to the 2, on the 14 our old kite is spice shaped (30sqm) and the new one under the new UNLIMITED rule has a much bigger top section whilst being exactly the same in luff length etc!
