C/m is no faster but it is more confy and you can get a better wave technique which you WILL need at chew ehen you start sailing in 25 knots + \!

So only buy it when you really want it because if you are planning any big events you need some practise first.

And yes i have dont loads of the topper training days and they are great fun.

ditto (timnoyce) to you pro wannabe!!!

Sounds exactly the same as me b.n.s, despite the fact I haven't got kids, I'm not married, and I don't babysit.... ! Last year I got a topper, but I only sailed it two or three times in that year , but now I've already sailed it like 5/6 times and it's only May !!!! hehe!!

Harry, you said that a centre main was better for comfort, but does it actually make you go faster??! I know you have to have skill, practise e.t.c anyway to go faster, but is it actually speedier than the aft main??

Definately get c/m, in all but the lightest winds it is a huge advantage, especially in waves (in comfort more than speed tho)

I've been married to a sailor for quite a while. About 4 years ago, soon after we joined Lancing SC, I believed your English proverb "If you can't beat them..." and I had a go. Until last year, I haven't been sailing more than 2 or 3 times a year, because of babysitting! Someone has to look after the kids !!!

I've managed to convince a friend that my little angels are no bother, so I've started sailing a little more at the end of last season and this year too.

So, to answer your question: "How long have you been sailing a topper??" NOT VERY LONG !!

Thnx for looking after me! to answer to an earlier posting, I am completely inexperienced and quite useless on a boat, really

However, the new sail is so different. With the old one, when I pulled the outhaul, the sail wasn't getting flatter, it was getting longer!

This new 5.8 is very responsive. I found tacking and gybing much easier, even at my level in a top force 4. Yes, I got it wet....  But what's the point of having a new sail if you don't baptise it!

Yesterday, I also got my Topper fixed: the transom plate bolts were loose and taking in an awful lot of water. I took it to Sailing Solutions. Dave and his son Adam fixed it in no time. Very nice people, very helpful - I do recommend them !

Soooo, I'm slowly getting there... New rigging, new sail, getting more confident, hiking out with great satisfaction, etc. Who knows? I might even be racing one day !!!!

Wicked...me too waverider!!! no daftie , i don't mean do you coach it, i mean have you done them before??! It sounds like the centre main might be a good investment then!!

I wonder how b.n.s got on with her 5.2 sail??!

As you said tgruitt, toppers are indestructable (and cute haha), I've been bashed quite a number of times...and it honestly wasn't my fault
