The voice of experience says that electrical tape is not sufficient to secure a Mars bar to a flat surface. (A turn of tape around the mast I believe would be ok.)
Chest pockets (zipped!) are easier to access from a hiked position anyway, and it also keeps those crucial extra grammes further outboard.... |

i have bungee loops on the inside ends of my 600 racks to tie mars bars, water bottles, and bannanas (possibly, ive never tried it but i suppose it would work) to. i did once try to leave my phone in one of those "waterproof" VHF radio bags on the racks once. this did not work.
