Yep, I certainly agree that language evolves - as shown by the fact that to
some of the 18 Footer sailors, the term "skiff" was once an insult yet now
they hold it so dear. IMHO the MPS has a lot of claim to "skiffosity".

I was just trying to (tongue in cheek) point out that the definitions in a
generalist dictionary (ie the Answers one that indicates a Solo is a skiff) don't
necessarily apply to dinghy sailing.

Wherever the line lies, it's damn blurred and unclear and always has been.

having worked out what DILIGAF means, I agree.

I sailed a lugger for the first time today.  It was horrible.  I doubt it was a skiff, though it did have a pointy front end, a square back end and a flattish bottom.

Never again.
