That depends on how the joint class events are managed - one big joint fleet with all the crowding mentioned or multiple courses with separate starts. At Grafham we can run 3 courses plus different starts at big events - and I don't think generally that makes for a crowd on the course - just enough to make it interesting .

The new Cherub PY suggests that it's soooo much faster, racing on the same course as a few Spices might not be an issue.

The issue for us Spicers (and other Topper Asymmetrics) is that to get a good big bit of water to play on for an event is not easy given low class numbers. So if we want to get a major event at a good water / club facilities/ social etc and also for max impact (publicity = class health, look at the combined symmetric class event this year) then we need to look for classes who'd like to combine for major Opens in future. Otherwise the future looks a bit

If you are prepaired to travel why not head north, there are some brilliant venues in the north of England and Scotland who you might be able to get interested rather than trying to get into the crowded venues down south
If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

Maily cos most active spicers we know of seem to be in the SE/SW Midlands (with a welsh outlyer!).

Back to the boat itself. An issue is that the mainsheet purchase is 8:1 which gives reasonable sheet loads but means having to shift metres of main in gusty conditions - which is SLOW . I tried going for 4:1 but this gives significant sheet loads. I see the 800's have gone to a rear sheeting sytem with twin tillers as a solution to the same problem and think this sould be the way to go for Spices - any pros or cons

Where do you get the cheap sticks mentioned on the tiller extensions thread - if I'm doing a trial I don't want to spend £30 plus......
