It must have been bad as Little Chef is not known for being cheap or good quality either. Anyone got a sailing report for the Sunday? |

The food is over priced but I wouldn't say its rubbish. The wet bar is run by an outside company not the sailing club, some members are pushing the club to do something about it though! |

The immature winging by the usual suspects [again!] in this forum does no one any favours. It's an extremely well run event, the main purpose of which is to raise money of the John Merricks Trust, debate that and the good work is does for our sport rather than moaning about the food.....

I didn't go to the dinner and i wasnt talking about that you fool, i was talking about the breakfast which was nothing to do with the trust! So making posts like that does you no favours! Chris Bridges understood what i meant, if you don't understand then debate the point dont just make sweeping judgements like that! I actually think, that the whole event was excellent but the breakfast was over priced, did all the entry fees go towards the Merricks trust?
All in all it was a great eent, rescue service was excellent!
I can not believe the personal attacks you get when you comment on the price of a bacon sandwich!
May i also just point out that if all i can find fault with is the price of a bacon sandwich and its quality then that must surely mean that everything else was pretty good??? Edited by Merlinboy |

the rescue team did do a great job but i am still angery because one rib told us we had finished the pursuit race just after we had gone round te leeward mark (so we thought we had finished 3rd). So we stopped, i put my gloves on and we mucked around about and just chilled out as you do sailing in, only to find out that we had not finished when we asked a rib just to check and he said no the finish line is in front of you. We ended up loosing to the 420 by a couple of boat lengths!!! unbeleivably frustrating when we would have easily been in front of it!! ohwell the pursuit course was mental but awesome in 29ers! |

Are you Becky or Sophie then??? Seems to me that you should be angry at yourself - you should have known the finishing time of the race and kept going until you were past that point and a bit more.

Rescue is always good at Rutland Think running costs were taken out then the remainder went to the Trust. The only thign the club would have made profit out of was the drinks at the Dinner, but they were pretty cheap.. Skiffman, you weren't in the 49er Sunday were you? Only saw Hiscocks out. So glad I didn't go out in 49er either day! |

Yep, it was! Big credit to the rescue teams and all organisation. Who were those nutters in Bermuda shorts? Any event this big is going to throw up some problems such as a few dodgy results, i.e. I know the RS 200 shown 2nd in race 2 and they said they capsized, and finished behind most of the other 200s. My first race result shows me behind 29ers we beat on the water! But I don't care - the sailing was amazing, finally making up for the last 3 - 4 years of 'no wind' events. Graham Vials was brilliant and a deserving winner, and yes, that leg towards the tower in the pursuit race was simply amazing in a 29er. The money raised for the Merricks trust is a great bonus, and I didn't eat much at the club - but had a superb meal at a pub with Timmy Taylors on tap - result! It was a really positive step that unlike the Bloody Mary, the club allowed the foiling Moths and other non PY boats to compete and get results, but it was a shame about another club not having crews mentioned at the prize giving - you'd have thought that after the Bloody Mary, that lesson would have been learnt. Advice from 29er sailors please - what do you do when youre barreling downwind in a huge gust, at something approaching 20kts, and an even bigger gust hits, you start a bear away, but the the rudder suddenly loses grip and stops working? We survived that once by dumping kite, but not the second time and was amazed not to break anything in the resulting crash. Edited by Hector |

I think you've just got to try and always be as flat as possible and be looking back for the gusts so you can bear away with them more than reacting to them and trying to bear away when the boat loads up. Easier said than done when trying not to crash into 100+boats at the Tiger!
