ratface is selling his rs300 if that what you are looking for. having just made the transition from laser to rs300 i feel failry qualified to tell you about the learning curve. IT IS STEEP. but in the ligher breezes it is fantastic just gliding past other boats, and in the breeze, even though i capsize most windy gybes and in waves etc, i come off the water with a huge grin on my face. pm if you want any more info/ have questions. tom |

Don't forget a Rooster 8.1 (although you are a bit light, I am 5KG underweight apparently).
The Blaze is good to sail it just needs a little bit of wind to get it moving. Once you can hike on the racks you will leave most other similar single handers behind (Laser, Phantom et al). If you have the time get a Blaze as it reqrd time in the boat. If not get an 8.1, easy and lots of bang for your buck. I have an 8.1 because I dont have the time for the Blaze any more but when I do I will be getting another one. Paul |

The 300 is a cracker, definately the most lively and responsive of it's type and very rewarding when you get it right. Also worth looking at a Blaze or a Vareo |

Come to BBSC we've got all the classes mentioned a fairly regular 300, blaze and rs 600 fleet if you want to check it out. We also have an abundance of lasers but my vote would be for the 300 as it's a great boat. I think the south east rs300 rep is based at bbsc anyway. If you want me to show you around PM i'm always there. |

Thanks for everything so far. If I want to get on the water by March it may have to be one of the club Lasers to begin with. Bough Beech SC and Hastings SC are not too far from me in East Sussex and have RS300s so I have just sent each club an email to see if anyone there can give me a go one weekend. The Blaze looks an option but again none at present club. There are RS600s but learning the trapeze might be too much so soon back in the saddle. |

Not really: they're a quite different style of boat to my way of thinking. The 300 is based on 70s Moth design and is pretty light, the Blaze owes more to pre amalgamation 14s and is less light. For me the 300 is just a delight to sail. I wouldn't say its very much easier than a 600 though really. Edited by JimC |

300 is a great boat unfortunatley there are very few used ones around and you will have to travel to buy one! Blaze is similar boat, i think there are some big fleets around south east! I have never sailed a blaze but like the look of them, i am obviously a little biased as i sail a 300, but i have to say it is the best single handed hiker i have ever owned, massive learning curve but a massive grin factor!
