Agreed. DO NOT BUY VISTA. It's all buggy and rubbish. Being a photographer I like macs, I like the workflow and the performance, i know a few things don't work but it's really easy to install windows on them too so there is no excuse.

Theres nothing wrong with vista! I'm running a dell laptop with a 2ghz duel core processor and 2 gig of ram, i've had not trouble at all with vista (though the laptop did come with vista ultimate) it copes well when running multiple aplications including photoshop, and it plays high res games without too much trouble.

End of the day its a good operating system and its pretty versatile, just dont run the minimum spec. I'll definatly be getting another windows based pc as my next rather than a mac.

no thanks, and 'web creative types' are the very reason why I invested in
'dreamweaver for dummies'....

So if they offered Cherubs for dummies?

Not I suspect that there in reality is any other version.

So then what is it you need here, Mac for dummies?

So now back to evangelism.

Accountancy software? We use something called Hansa runs the entire
business, fully integrated package including CRM along with Sales Order
processing, stock control, nominal etc etc was fully Euro and millenium
compliant back in 98 when we first acquired it.
Nokia? What's a nokia hasn't everyone bought an iphone?

Boot camp enables native direct to processor booting of windoze if you
must, two other software solutions offer both OS's live window to window
switching and one of them actually tested a mac laptop as fastest windoze
dual core for a couple of weeks not long back in time.

So if you're a web creative type you can try both platforms on one
machine side by side if your monitors big enough .

Why am I not surprised this unenlightened environment knows little to
nothing about Macs, aren't y'all lucky a superior being happened along to
grace you with his presence.

And all free of charge at that..

My oh my philanthropy is tough.

'Thonk.....'

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

There are plus's and minus's to both - however macs are being hyped as being problem free and that you need never buy any software for it as it has everything you need out of the box.  This simply is not true.

The latest imacs have msoffice and mac iwork preloaded - but just like most PCs...they are just 30 day trials.  As with PCs, macs have integrated photo and video manipulation software...but if you are serious about either - you will want to buy third party software.  They crash...same as PCs.  Not so many viruses around for them - but that is because macs amount to less than 10% of the personal computers in the world - so the idiots that devise viuruses don't bother.

So, its worth keeping an open mind - especially if you are the sort of person who enjoys a variety of software and 'tinkering', because getting Apple spares and doing it yourself is a nightmare.

Still....they do look nice (apart from the mini)

...but then so do some of the new Sony offerings

So not a single Mac User?

I hate to say it folk, but this is a fairly unique precedent in this forum
warriors history, I've been on boards were they are few, but never where
there are none at all.

What does that say about this group?

Nothing good, that's for sure

No wonder the headmaster doesn't bother to bring the software up to
date.

Then again school kids don't use Macs either, there's a clue all in itself.
