And because its lighter, shorter and more responsive you get much more feedback and sensation of speed so if its the feeling of going fast rather than the actual speed thats important then I agree.
If its actual speed over the water that you want then you might also consider a Blaze. They are big boats, with a lot of sail for people your size, and you would be well off the bottom of the accepted weight range however if you avoid the really heavy stuff you would manage ok. I've sailed one for years at your height and 70kgs and even though I'm to light for one as well its one of the few boats that I can (and really enjoy) sailing in any wind strength. Ian

If its actual speed over the water you want don't you get a motorboat?

70kg minimumum for a B rig, though that's still a bit on the light side. Could be 60kg I guess with the smaller A rig.

just out of interest how did you find sailing a radial at just over 60, did it feel ok and in how strong wind could you go out and be competitive at?

Doey Wizard, for the Radial I am now 70kg and see myself to be around the optimum wieght, preferably a little lighter but in the heavy stuff I am definately competitive. I reckon the general consensus is around 68kg for the radial- I try to adjust my wieght by a kilo or two in the summer..
Ultimately as long as you are within 63kg + your boathandling will have a bigger effect than you weight, as sailing the boat well is what it is all about! If that's what you need to improve on, I'm offering really good value coaching over the xmas holidays so PM me if you think you might be interested in a session. Cheers PHS

Doey Wizard I find the radial ok at my weight, its only when it begins to get really windy that I begin to feel a bit more weight would help.

i sail a streaker at 53 or so kg, streight out of toppers and i can just about handle the full rig in anything, and there is a good class association which cannot be said for some other boats such as europes.
