A trip to the consultant today reveals that I did indeed tear the cartilage in my wrist whilst trying to uncleat a jammed main the club Vision. The upshot is that my forearm will be in a splint - cast - another cast until about the end of June.
Even worse, I am going to have to wear cardigans! No sailing for me for a while then - presumably there will be physio too, once the casts are off. So, given that my contender will be lying idle for most of the year, should I sell it (there is a shortage of second hand contenders) then buy another newer, prettier one - if I can find one - ready for the autumn/winter, thus not having to pay a berthing fee and doing the class a favour, or do I keep it to be on the safe side in case I can't get another one? Or should I sue RS for the naff main cleat and simply get them to give me an RS100 for my pains.. ![]() |

Is there anyone you can lend the Contender to for the Summer who would then pay the berthing fee, and make use of the boat?

It depends on costs for berthing. I'd rpobably keep it if i have had it a while, or go with the others and sell and then buy a 700!

Never sell a boat you love!
Spend all the spare time working out controls that allow a one-armed person to hook on, steer and play sheet all at sme time... |

Sell it. As you know people in the fleet you will always get the low down on new boats coming up for sale. Saves you on berthing, insurance and you don't have to worry about everything being weakened by prolonged storage. Says he with an RS300 in the garage which has not been used since august!!! |

Find someone who can make use of it and pay the bills while
you are incapacitated! ticks most of the box's, helps the class, saves you money, gets looked after etc. At the moment im at uni and get 5months off over the summer. I want to try a new boat but cant justify buying one as it will be sit unused for 7months, id be willing to pay mooring, insurance and for any wear or tear. This sort of arrangement makes sense for both parties, find someone at your club in a similar situation. |
