Hi
I'm after something for club racing on handicap mostly agains 3-4 Laser radials. I have looked at the Comet Xtra, Streaker, Lightning368, Supernova and the Byte CII, Europe. My bother has a CII which is great in light winds and beats then nice but, in a F5 radials kick CII backside Im 60KG so im a crap weight to begin with but im after a boat I can sail in the F5 and beond (well not to far beond) but still keep up with lasers. (beating them is also a good option or a good PY number Whats the best ting for beating a laser or do I have to get a laser with a radial and a 4.7 rig? at the age of 18 I cant have a 4.7 surley? |

I suspect a forum wind guage here. From the list of boats above i would suspect the europe to be the only one close to a Laser in a big blow. Remeber always buy a boat that matchs your stetch of water and usual wind conditions! If you usually get a F5 (which i doubt) Then why bother buying a boat that is only competitive in these conditions!! |

Well were fortunate to get a F3 minimum on average (if there is such a thing as average wind)

Where do you sail then? Its hard to recommend a boat with out knowing where you sail. Do you sail in the UK? An average wind strength of F£ i would say is fairly strong for anywhere in this county. |

i love my lightning 368, it is a lovely boat, nice to sail, with good quality controls and sail.
it will beat the radial in winds up toF3 to F4. but in stronger winds the radial will win every time due to its longer waterline. i would not think any of the named boats could beat the radial in a F5 either, and any other boat that could, would need a helm of more than 60KG. sorry i could not be of more help. The only boat I would suggest would be something like a Byte CII. As others have already stated though the Radial will beat them when the wind gets up.

Constant F3 and above, and 60kg ... Topper maybe? Sail it well enough and thrash them on the handicap :p

I would go for the Byte CII.
The Byte an be quite hard to sail in breeze if you have not set your rig up correctly but out in Canada I lined up with the Radials in a Byte on the windy days and was definitely higher and faster than the Youth sailors. |
