Going back to Johnny T 's idea of a big cat turnout at Grafham, be advised you have to prebook your camper vans, combine this with pre entry and there is no cost implications. you can call the club or download the CAT OPEN entry form from the website. The office are very helpful at Grafham. 0845 644 2548 http://www.grafham.org/events/?p=140 Looking forward to seeing as many cats as possible at Grafham

Another way to express our displeasure is to 1) add a low star rating 2) add negative comments to the (disceptive) RYA press release on the Y&Y website which claimed a change of direction. Here is the link......... Shortcut to: http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/?article=138678

While many Irish cat sailors have already signed the petition, the Irish Multihull Association has also contacted the Irish Sailing Association to check out their submission to ISAF. We should have an answer in a day or so.

It would be helpful to know from someone who attended the meeting what justification that thr RYA put forward for their position. If the point of the meeting was to explain their position, I am none the wiser. How about a post from one of the attenders?

My understanding of the RYAs position is that it will put the new 'youth' proposal forward with the 8 classes. This will probably force ISAF to vote as to which one will be dropped as they will only want 7. The RYA are refusing to say which 7 they will vote for if it comes to that. There stance on 2012 is unchanged but again have refused to say how they will vote. It is safe to assume that they will support the 8 classes they have put forward so that means they have 2 votes to post, again they have REFUSED to support a multihull by saying that they will vote for one. |

When I read the RYA statement, kindly reproduced by Sprint Bob, I cringed. They loftily pronounce "The RYA Council maintains its belief that catamaran racing is an important part of the sport of sailing in the UK". Well, of course it is. They should have said "worldwide", but never mind that. Their words are patronising and I am now more anti-RYA than ever. The danger is the overseas equivalents closing ranks with the RYA. Somehow, we must drive a wedge between the RYA and the rest. It is imperative cat sailors around the world lobby their national councils, as our fellow forum member "Dermot M" and others have done in Ireland. Also to continue with the petitions.

The also REFUSED to support the Star, Yngling (Thanks Stuart O) or the Finn - there will be only 10 events. I suspect that they'll abstain as anything else will be "out of the frying pan and into the fire" with either small keelboat sailors or heavyweights.

It seems to me that the RYA position is that it wants medals and an earlier post used the ugly phrase "return on investment". They look as though thay are gearing up to do a deal on the Yngling, Finn or Star where they may feel they have a stronger chance of a medal. I am sure if our Tornado teams were winning every regatta they would be singing a different tune. However, the RYA have a duty to promote sailing in all its forms not just classes that we may have a temporary advantage in. This is a great example of how funding money completely corrodes sporting organisations.
