Agreed, can we stop all discussion about boards as it is not the objective here.

aaahhhh

that's why most your posts are made while I'm tucked up in bed.  I thought you were just burning the midnight oil!

Do you know if there is much discussion about the RYA's submissions where you are?

That's unrealistic. An Olympic class has to go. Therefore the question of which is should be is inextricably linked to the question in hand.

Stefan as anyone can see the Topic IS YOUTH SAILING the RYA and CATAMARANS .

Whilst your debate about what class to dump for olympics is important it only dilutes the content of THIS topic , if you feel so strongly why not start a new topic .

THis thread is TOO important to us cat sailors to dilute with diverse chat .

Infact I'll start a new Topic for you .

comment directed at Stefan > Start a new thread - ' which Olympic class for the chop' - then.

As for RYA comments. Urban myths or not the myth exists by word of mouth, and says more about the RYA's perception as a body than anything else. I have my own experiences of RYA small mindedness toward mono classes ( not Cherub's ).

Unfortunately like many British institutions it is highly political and self absorbed. I would think that the request to drop the Cat youth programme and Cat sailing in 2012 has more to do with individuals empire building than than anything else.

What's difficult about that is it is difficult to change.

Cat's and Windsurfers don't belong to the 'Old School Tie' brigade so it doesn't surprise me that comments that people allege or the current Cat situation exists.

Over 1700 signatures and growing

Worldwide support

Who could have imagined that at the beginning of the petition?

I did its a very emotive subject and I've always suspected a growing groundswell of unhappiness with our governing body and decisions made within through out the whole of sailing , I think we've just exposed the tip of the iceberg .

The petition is an excellent way for people to stand up and be counted , when normally they would quietly disagree .

Just hope the RYA has the good sense to realise the situation as it is and  not bolster their way through justifying their actions to themselves .

This is a time when the RYA should seriously be considering their position within UK sailing and support of such and turn this situation in their favour rather than alienating the sailing community any further.

I await their further decissions with interest .

Chris,

11 into 10 dosn't go so somthings got to give so there is of course going to eb an element of this is better than that becuase that is the decision that has to be made.

Most dinghy & cat sailors will see each other sailing/racing at some point but I can say that I have not seen any course racing by windsurfers in over 10 (or more) years. That of course dosn't mean it dosn't happen it's just the average dinghy/cat sailor never see's it.

Now; you quote some big figures for windsurfer racing in the UK, I had a look on the UKWA site and that only had very small events listed ...

Perhaps you could point us at some UK websites that detail the level of activity for course racing on windsurfers so we can educate ourselves ...
