perhaps this fuss will force ISAF into having a proper youth development policy for cats......maybe this was the rya's intention in putting the submission forward?

I think alot of the problem is that the non-sailing public do not understand sailing, and therefore switch off. Therefore the tactical nature of sailing is lost. |

Can't help thinking some of the "newbie " remarks seem to be in line with a certain songsheet and perhaps as I've allready done a bit of disclosure of identities wouldn't go amiss (when I copied my e mail to Rod Carr to the topic) Mark Homer
Stealth sxl GBR106 I would be astounded if there were NO posts in here from high up RYA personel , their moves may have seemed naive in their submissions , but they all live in the same age as ourselves and appreciate the power of the nett. With all our money the rya could enlist a spin doctor .(perhaps after the horse has bolted though I would like to state that as one of the first names on the petition I FULLY SUPPORT the CLARIFIED statement.

![]() It could just be that this subject goes further and ends up with ISAF and the British Olympic committee asking the RYA why it is that they do not represent Catamaran sailors yet pretend to in their submissions. And also why they don't operate within the terms of their constitution! The backfire on the RYA may well have begun. |

Nearly 750 signatures. A big thank you to all those that have so far signed, but keep badgering those that haven't........Parents, wifes, girlfriends anyone involved in sailing etc It looks like the cat sailors have been woken from their sleep and are finally uniting behind a good cause. Lets keep united once we have defeated this issue. |

I completely agree with Stuart O's post. In my class, the Sprints, we hold two teach-ins a year: north and south. The teach-ins are "inclusive", as the government would say. They are NOT exclusive, ie for children only, as the RYA would like. Moreover, we also have training at club level, where we are adept at getting allcomers started. The RYA is completely indifferent to this. The RYA must be informed that we are not the old USSR. We live in a democracy where representation, transparancy, and accountability are paramount.

Most well run UK class associations run training for their members whether in multihulls or monos....sounds like the cats are no different in this respect which is great. The issue is that the monos and windsurfers have specific, popular junior and youth orientated boats like the Optimist, Cadet, Mirror, Laser Radial , Bic Techno etc...whereas neither the UK cat "family," sailing schools or the RYA has been successful in promoting cat sailing in specific, youth orientated cats to young people. Maybe it doesn't matter, and youngsters should sail whatever cats they wish, but a laissez faire system makes for poor age group orientated coaching and competitions. I wonder how many "cat clubs" run learn to sail or learn to race programmes specifically for youngsters? |
