Want a self tacker on the 14 but dont want the hassle of cutting sails too much and putting a bar in etc.
Help would be appreciated
Cheers,
Alex

Id definantly recomend doing it with a track properly... It took me just a couple of days to do mine in between other jobs and was dead simple despite my silly shaped deck...
Ive yet to see a rope system that looks like it would give enough control.

If your jibs are overlapping and you dont want to cut them down you could always go for a W track?

Never seen one that was any good at all - unless of course you want to be dog slow upwind... IIWY I'd bite the bullet and get the track.

I fitted  a  49er jib track to my  14   and it worked  fine. Only problem was I could not retract the pole  fully for travelling. The   morrision10/11  jib  also  fitted fine on this set up

One of the 3000 class has been experimenting with self tackers to go with the big and roachy, overlapping North jibs.

A W track was tried but the sail didn't reliably cross the boat.  The continuous curve Mk2 track is reportedly much better.  The too-far-forward jib cleat that results from the continuous curve is compensated by use of a clew board on the jib.  Ie it's sheeted from slightly in front of the clew with the board providing tension in the roach.

I have yet to see it in use mind .

A W track is one where there is a reverse curve in the centre rather than being a continuous radius. The sheet gos slack as it goes past the reverse curve. It enables the track to be a bit further aft.
