Maybe stretch marks are a good thing

I've just started using a new kite on the 4000. Horrible at first luff seemed most stable with the tape folded back on itself. However now with a couple few races completed the luff looks good. So there is definitely a little bit of stretching going on. |

What are the clubs that people are talking about where they now have fast ISO's and Buzz's with the new sails? I'd like to make sure they are coming to the nationals next weekend at Herne Bay!
Ah well, thinking about it, I would like to get in touch after the nationals - don't want them coming along a ruining the pecking order you know!! |

We have an ISO at our club with new sails and in the light stuff he's much quicker than before, not been out yet in a blow though.
The old sails by Sobstad shrank into shape over time, so that the quickest sails were the oldest ones, assuming of course that they didnt de-laminate first ! |

When I went from old sails to new sails on an RS400, my speed dropped right away. It took a couple of weeks or more of steady sailing, and lots of re-measuring and setting up to get the speed back. Then it was back to be being faster again. And the 400 sails are "all the same" whether new or old. So I would definately get the measures out and re-calculate what you want from the boat and how to set it up for that (e.g. fast vs flexible; waves vs flat water; point high vs foot fast; upwind vs downwind; keep it totally flat vs keep it nearly flat - everyone will want slightly different settings, and you need to know what you want and how to get it). |

Basically guys. With any new sail plan of course there are going to be changes. Have you taken into account for example the age of masts and the way people sail the boats and rig tensions etc? Or does everyone stick to regimented settings?

The new sails ( especially on the iso's) are definately leading the old sails round the course, BUT talking to the guys doing the leading they have definately said of some changes they have made to the boat, best thing to do is to go to the nationals and talk to these guys and see if they can suggest anything

I was out racing yesterday with Josh (MPJPBUZZ585), and he had a new main and kite, and I was out with the old sails, and we seemed to be able to point a lot better than him, but downwind he seemed to catch up with the new cut kite. but he was using an old style jib, would that make a big difference?
