more. i guess i would be looking for a b rig being near top end weight?
i was thinking thou today, why not settle for a standard laser? i think that could be answered by the fun factor and the speed factor. plus, i like a good challenge when it comes to sailing new boats. now all i need to do is sell the 800......its just had a mast refurb |

agreed, unless you are coming from something like a lowrider moth then you will swim a bit to start with. but after a few weeks you will be swimming less and racing more. then its worth it. even in open meetings people capsize though. the last one i went to (dovestone) was quite wild and even the top 2boats capsized a few times each. if you want to know ore join the yahoo rs300 group (google it) and ask a few questions. they are really friendly and will know of boats for sale before they even come on the market. alternatively pm me any queries you may have an i will try and answer them from my few months experience i have had so far. |

I Suppose Mr Cockeril is wrong then! I have had 22 years of dinghy racing experience in my earleir days at quite a respectable level, including racing latest rules I14's (morrison 12 which is notorous as one of the hardest hull shapes to keep upright) and when i jumped in the 300 i don't mind admitting i swam a fair bit, you can just jump in one and sail one, but not in any kind of blow. Unless you just want to reach up and down. |

It does depend on previous experiences. You may find you can just step into the 300 and sail it but it will take some time to really get it going. |

300 will be the best bet for you, its much faster round a course then a vareo (even with the kite up) I sold mine recently and i weighed 14 1/2 stone i was fine. They are very very light one the Tolley, there is no single handed hiker on the market that matches it I'm afraid. The only problem with a 300 is you wont just jump in it and sail it like you would say a laser. It has a "wet" period usually of a month, once you are passed that you will be able to get round the course, and its all up wards from there.

the 300 is a fair amount faster than the vareo. it is quite a difficult boat to get the hand of at first. after a mofew sails you will be able to get it around a course ok and from then on it just gets better. your time in the 800 will help but primarily its the instability of the thing and the way it is so sensitive to trim which catches people out. at 14stone you will be ok in the 300. weights of those on the circuit ranges from 60kg ish up to 100or so. its about how you sail the boat not how heavy you are or how big your wallet is. that said, most of the boats are getting on a bit now so you may find you need to spend a bit on replacing cleats and some blocks etc if they are the originals. |

im a bit of a fatty at 14st odd, another reason to get rid of the 800. its all muscle and no pub....i promise.
300 seems a good shout at the mo. given the amount of time i'll have to sail it, is the level of ability needed to sail it to difficult given the amount of time on the water i'll have to get used to it or will the time in the 800 stand me in good stead? whats the performance like compared to the vareo? cat isn't really a runner given space on beach and in boat park. |
