It would surprise me if they haven't.

"...30 boats is Buckley's target for this year and he is determined to maintain the standard of the event when it comes to the competitors. He is hoping that by taking the time to talk to the individual classes at the Show the RCYC will get a good idea as to which classes will be invited to come to the conclusion of the summer's racing at national, European and World Championship level.

A new Endeavour Committee has been elected at the RCYC and the selection criteria is the first major thing they will be looking at says Buckley. "At the show we'll be able to gauge what classes we could invite and find out what their hopes and ambitions are for their own nationals. One of the concerns is that if the sailing standard gets poor it will totally spoil the event."

So winning your nationals against 15 other boats will not cut the mustard. "We are not quite sure how to set down some fair rules for qualification, but we'll start by looking at the Yachts and Yachting attendance tables and go from there," confirms Buckley..."

>>RS400 which is firmly a heavyweight's class.

I don't agree with that one.

The 2004 Club Championships for the RS400 (which comprised a series of 15 races at each club, followed by a final event for the top placed qualifiers of 9 races) was won with an all up weight of 20 to 21 stone, with second place weighing around 22 stone.

Other people at the same club race with an all up weight of closer to 30 stone: so the 400 is a good weight carrier, rather than requiring weight.

But I do agree that, although sailing the 400 is pretty straight forward, being able to master it requires practise - and the time to do that is not always available to members of other classes for the Endeavour Trophy.

I don't - I think it is a good choice. It has been clear over many years that using a mainstream racing class has given a major advantage to those familiar with that class. Using a simple boat like this will level the playing field and having the boats supplied will make taking part much simpler. Also the optimum crew weight is likely to be closer to that for a range of 2-handed classes than the RS400, which is firmly a heavyweight's class.

In these Internet days you have to be a bit careful about giving classes names so that search engiones can find them... TYpe Cherub into a web browser and you get 100 links telling you where to buy kitsch little figurines for instance. A made up name like vargo kinda makes sense.
