Thanks MM, all we need now is strong wind. We are always on the look out for good second hand Tasars  and have people waiting for the right boats. If you know of any tucked away with Wilsonian or Ex Wilsonian sailors any "leads"would be appreciated.

Just shows how class info on the web gets out of date - we sent invitations to two Tasar reps we found listed somewhere (I'll send you the details for info, Rod, along with the entry form). Be great to have the Tasars along - there used to be a fleet at Wilsonian.

Any other classes out there who haven't received an invite, please let me know - we didn't knowingly exclude anyone, and indeed tried to include everyone!

It'd be great if it was a top sailor fest, but in principle classes can enter who they like. Only the CA's are getting the necessary entry forms, so if someone was keen to be the class rep they'd need to lobby their association.

The course is likely to be so vast that you won't be able to see it from one point, but Gillingham Pier/Strand would show some of the action. It's not really a spectator event though - unless somebody wants to lay on a spectator boat as they do for the 18ft Skiffs, complete with betting on the winning class!

What we perhaps didn't emphasise enough in the early publicity is that classes are not obliged to enter two boats - only one is strictly necessary as it's the first boat home which scores. But obviously with two boats you increase your chances.

Given that entry is free for the classes, it's hard to see what advantage we could give early sign-ups, unless you're suggesting a head start!

Is it expected that the class associations will send their best sailors or nobody?

Say for instance the top "guys" in the Finn class are not available could a lesser mortal take their place even without class approval?

The attraction of an event like this for me is that no class can swamp another out of it by weight of numbers.

Are there any vantage points along the river where the action could be observed?

Do early sign-ups get any advantage?

Invitations went out at the weekend, and yes the Tasar and Blaze were invited, along with every other class we could think of as fast or faster than a Mirror. You need to ask your class association to name you on the entry form if you want to be their 2oak representative.

If every class attends it could be a bit chummy in the dinghy park , but chances are (looking at the Boat Show Pursuit Race attendance) many won't due to clashing opens or whatever, and some may send just one boat, as it's the first boat in a class that determines the classes result.

And if Porteous is up for it his Tasar (rather than his Merlin or his Blaze)  I suppose we'd better come along with a couple of Blazes to remind him he really should spend be spending the money !

I was being slightly mischievous about the number of 3000 types entering the 2OAK but I am assuming the purpose of such an event is to allow some comparison under the prevailing conditions on the day between classes and types that the dinghy world rarely see all together.

Will the results be useful handicap data to the RYA as many classes would be represented

Not sure I understand the Phantom reference. You may be sailing up the wrong creek.
