The answer is easy. By the first twin trap boat. 45 kg = light, lighter than a chureb easy to right light crews are around 115kg A 12 footer. www.skiff.org.au or www.12footskiff.com

Or there is another cherub for sale on the website. HERE It's got a pukka 97 rules rig and is a quick design. Think it needs a bit of DIY to get it on the water but she will be a real weapon specially if you get the hang of it! I'm sure there are enough people about locally depending on where you live who could get you on the water in a weekend or a few evenings.

At your weight you won't be underpowered in the Spice. Having
said that, there aren't many about racing - its the Iso/Buzz/Spice/Boss
open at my club this weekend, and think I only saw two Spice's.
No Boss' turned up FYI. Loads of ISO's and Buzzes however.
Spice looks nice enough, heard its slow upwind but its twin trap, so when you're a bit heavier you can get a 5000, which is an excellent step towards the 18ft Skiff... If you have ambitions. |

seems like spice is the way to go then... underpowered is fine for our first twin trapeze boat, and we do not want to be going too fast 'cos st mawes bay is not that big! |

It's only underpowered if you are to heavy. Same as any boat. I would agree with SetSail that the Spice isn't the greatest performance boat in the world... but for cheap summer fun sailing on some nice swell in a 3 /4 off St Mawes it would be great, low cost, low mainternace and low on the RNLI's list of things to do that day... cos it's managable in pretty much all conditions. I'd be happy with that sailing unsupported. Edited by Jack Sparrow |

There really is a gap in the market for a fun but easy to learn twin wire boat now. I guess the problem is, is that people will spend a season in it and move on to an 800. This may have been why the 3k had bad times, people sailed it a bit and then got good enough for the 4k/whatever. |

The trouble is that underpowered is the last thing you want in a twin string boat. If you have to wait till its dogs off chains to get two stringing it is just not worth the hastle and you would be quicker sailing it single string. |

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

Don't get me wrong, the spice isn't fantastic, but for lightweight crews looking for a twin wire experience, cheap up keep and fun, its pretty good. Under powered is what its supposed to be so its more manageable. It is worth the consideration in my opinion, despite the cons, which im sure im about to get a list of as long as my arm....
