by The Race Press on 3 Oct 2000
During the press conference organised this morning at the Centre Nautique et Touristique du Lacydon, Bruno Peyron confirmed that Marseilles would be the official site of the finish of THE RACE / LA COURSE DU MILLENAIRE. So after Monaco, where the prologue will be organised on 15th, 16th and 17th December and Barcelona where the start will be given on 31st December, the Phocaean City will be welcoming the seven maxi-catamarans currently entered, at the end of their voyage round the world.

After reporting on the preparations of the challengers, Bruno Peyron reiterated the historic commitment of the principal partners of The Race in the construction of the event, with in the forefront Disneyland Paris, France Telecom and Mission 2000 in France.

On behalf of the Municipal Council, Monsieur Bernard Giraud then exposed the principal reasons that weighed in favour of the Phocaean City's commitment and notably the wish to associate all the people of Marseilles in this international nautical event therefore re-establishing ties with 26 centuries of maritime traditions.

So rendezvous in Marseilles' Old Harbour in the early days of March 2001 to welcome home the first giants of the sea!
