by Adrian Ellis on 13 Sep 2000
Five people with multiple sclerosis are preparing to join the 46ft state-of-the-art yacht
Multiple Challenge for a 75-mile Royal Ocean Racing Club race across the English
Channel. Starting from Cowes on Friday 22 September, the MS crew will be taking on
experienced competitive yachtsmen and women for the dash to the Yacht Club de
Cherbourg.
Project co-ordinator, Ken Miles, who has MS, said, "MS crews have successfully raced
Multiple Challenge in the famous Fastnet Race and on the Round Britain in the past. The
team goal is no different from any other entrant, they're out to race. Doubtless, the crew
will all looking forward to spending a few days onboard getting to know one another and
pulling together as a team."

The MS crew will be: Mervyn Jannetta from London, Pamela Roberts from Cheshire, Gil
Mason from Essex, John Brent from Kent and Chas Woodcock from Middlesex.

Mr Miles added, "This project really does offer people like me a great opportunity. Apart
from the hard work, there's a lot of fun in store. We also have the chance to raise
awareness about MS and raise sponsorship for MS research and for the welfare services
for those worse off."
