Sailing's 'State Of Origin' to be fought out on the Sunshine Coast

by Patrick Scharf on 1 Jan 2001
The 36th Australian Hartley TS16 Championships will be held at Lake Cootharaba north of Noosa. It will be held from the 7th to the 13th January, and has attracted some of the best sailors from New South Wales and Queensland.

Organising Chairman Ken Eddy of Boreen Point, said, ' The calibre of sailing knowledge and ability that the sailors coming to this championship have, is enormous.'

People, like Bruce Anson (Charlie Brown) and Robert Knight (Malinda), who are well known competitors from Sydney's northern suburbs, are favourites to take out the event. Queensland's answer lies with Rob Huckfeldt (Jackpot) and Eelke Wouda (Aeolian) from Brisbane along with local identities Ken Eddy (Sand Witch) from Boreen Point and David Heaney (Ariki) from Tewantin.

These boats could be said to have started the trailer sailer era back in the late 60's. Most boats competing at this event were built after many late nights and weekends, in the home garages of their owners. They are great DIY projects.

Who will take the prize?
