STRATHFIELD PITTWATER TO COFFS HARBOUR RACE - Amendments to Notice of Race

by Georgie Brown on 22 Dec 2000
Following the release of the Coroner's Recommendations and Findings into the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Race, the Committee of the
Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club met last night to consider the impact of the Coroners Inquest into the deaths which occurred in the
1998 Sydney to Hobart.

Two amendments were made to the Notice of Race

1.All harnesses and lanyards with the brand Tuff Marine Australia or any derivation of that name will not be
accepted….

2 . Skippers or Owners of all yachts competing are required to sign a document which verifies the letter of December 21,
issued by the RPAYC….

The letter has been issued along with the Coroner's Recommendations, and is to be read by all crew competing on their yacht for the
20th Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Race 2000-2001. The letter is to be signed and returned to the RPAYC by 1800 hrs by 1st
January, 2001.

The letter noted that some of the Coroner's Recommendations are yet to be finally considered by the AYF and therefore some of the
safety equipment on the yacht may not be in conformity with the Coroner's Recommendations.

This year, a record number of entries have been received. On January 2, at 1.00pm, 112 boats will cross the start line for
the 226nm race to Coffs Harbour. The previous record was 108 boats in 1991.

The Strathfield Pittwater to Coffs Harbour race is a major race in a five race series. The Strathfield series begins on
Pittwater on Friday, December 29 and 30 and culminates in Coffs Harbour with the final races on Friday January 5 and 6, 2001.
