Parkstone Yacht Club Cadet Open

by Richard Havill 8 Oct 2000 21:09 BST

24 Cadets entered for the Parkstone Open Meeting, with visitors from Royal Lymington, Highcliffe, South Cerney and Royal Torbay Yacht Club. The day dawned wet, cool and very unwelcoming. However Race Officer Gill Linford got the racing off on time in very light airs. From the beginning the competition was hot and Matt Summers and Max Holloway from Highcliffe, Iain Watson and Ed Thomas from Royal Lymington and Simon Lambert and David Brewer from Parkstone battled for first over the finishing line in each race. The two races before lunch were completed in a Force 1-2 and it was only Sam and Sophie Pearson from Parkstone who looked as if they could bring an upset to the results. After lunch the wind had piped up to a Force 3-4 and the racing once again seemed between the three helms. The results were eventually decided on a tie break with the top three boats getting 5 points each.

Mary Reddyhoff, Commodore at Parkstone presented the prizes which were very kindly donated by Force Four Chandlery. Apart from the main prizes there were two extras which were presented on at the discretion of the Race, one going to Louis Fitzsimmons and Michael Smart for stickability and improvement as he had only purchased his boat on the Monday prior to the weekend and to Victoria Havill and Zoe Dunne for consideration for fellow crew and an excellent result as the first girl team. The youngest boy prize went to Adam Butler from Highcliffe and the youngest girl to Mollie Bridge from Royal Lymington.

Overall Results:

1st 8539 Matt Summers and Max Holloway Highcliffe SC
