Sixteen Junior Sailors turned up for this years annual Peter Andreae Trophy at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. Racing in the Club’s Lymington River Scows.

This year the promised light South Easterly was late arriving resulting in one race for Junior division and both the intermediate races being rowing races, to the amusement of the onlookers as most of the competitors demonstrated how poor their rowing skills were

Three sections of young sailors were made up by age group , Junior, intermediate and Senior and two races were held for each group with the top three boats from each group moving forward into the finals.

In the finals the top two boats Robbie Claridge and Richard Mason dominated both races with a 1st and 2nd each, resulting in a sail off between the two. Robbie made the best start and appeared to have control of the race but he permitted Richard to slip through to leeward and take control to win the event comfortably and take the Peter Andreae Trophy, a silver model of a Lymington Pram.

Overall Results:

1st Richard Mason - 3pts (1st on race off)
2nd Robbie Claridge - 3pts
3rd Paul Minors - 7pts
4th Sophie Weguelin - 8pts
5th Andrew Wishart - 9pts
6th Danielle Thomas - 12pts
7th= Elaine Bell - 15pts
7th= Mark Minors - 15pts
9th Caellagh Garrison – 18pts

Once again many thanks to all those who helped make this another successful event, particularly Jane Clegg and Wendy Jardine in the Office and Robin Markes, John Husband and Phil Lawrence in the RIB’s.

Grabbing chances with both hands
Can bad weather actually lead to more sailing? There's been no getting away from the fact that it's been a pretty miserable start to 2024 weather-wise in the UK. February saw record rainfall (yes, I know we're famed for our rain over here), it's been seriously windy and generally chilly. Posted on 30 Apr 2024
