GBR Mirror Team finalising preparations for 2007 worlds

The Mirror GBR Team are finalising their preparations for the 2007 World Championship to be held in Port Elizabeth, January 2007.
Qualifications took place in the spring at Ullswater and Brightlingsea, with an amazing thirty boats being selected.
The Mirrors were recently loaded into two containers at the RYA depot, the class have benefited greatly by having Peter Bentley involved. Peter is the RYA Technical Projects Manager and responsible for logistics of the Olympic squad, his clever design for the racking allowed us to fit 15 Mirrors into a container five high, fully utilising the space and believed to be a record.
A third container held three ribs and support gear.
Team GBR represents a good cross section of Mirror sailors, ranging from seven years old upwards. There are many adults sailing with children and a strong RYA Junior group, the later receiving grants and coach support.
It was 1997 that GBR last won the Mirror Worlds, with such a strong team, plenty of planning and training, let’s hope that on the tenth anniversary we can bring the big one back.
