Spitfire Travellers at Minnis Bay Sailing Club

by Spitfire 100 12 Apr 2006 11:46 BST 8-9 April 2006

On the 8/9 April Minnis Bay Sailing Club hosted the first spitfire TT of the 2006 season, with a good early season turn out of 11 boats.

On Saturday three races were held in windy, sunny weather. Mike Scantlebury and David Harris took the first race of the season, Chris Sproat and Georgina Burke took the next two races, leading almost from the start. Saturday night saw a great evening in the club, with dinner provided and plenty of beer on tap - it was also Rosanna Jury’s, the youngest sailor on the circuit, 14th birthday.

On a slightly cloudier and lighter Sunday two races saw Alex Farr and Marcelle Newbold take the first race after a tactical move at the last mark, and the final race won by Mike and David. Chris and George had a slight ‘coming together’ with the committee boat’s anchor chain in the last race - but still managed to clinch the overall first position, Mike and David coming in second and Alex and Marcelle third. David White and crew Theresa Ryall showed good promise for the rest of the season with three finishes out of five in the top three.

Thanks go to MBSC who as usual hosted a great event, we look forward to next year. Next event for the Spitfires is Weston Grand Slam, 14th – 17th April 2006.
