RS National Championships at Pwllheli Sailing Club - Day 4
by Martin Wadhams 29 Aug 2000 23:22 BST
This was the last day of the Championships for the RS400 and RS800 classes. The weather forecasters were, sadly, right on the money and a fitfull light breeze never really established itself. Both fleets launched after postponement, in the hope that a thermal wind would strengthen enough for racing. The 400's actually started a race, but the wind shifted and died forcing cancellation before the end of the first lap. On the 800 track the sequence started, but the race was abandoned before the start actually happened. This outcome will have been a relief not only to the overall leaders, but also to those who had indulged in one of the biggest RS party nights for a long time last night!
Nevertheless, this championship will be long remembered. The 400 class completed 6 races and the 800's 8 races. The conditions were testing, the organisation almost faultless and the facilities here at Pwhelli are first class. We have worthy new champions and tommorrow the second section of the championship swings into action when the RS200, RS300 and RS600 competition begins.
