Three boats raced for the Thetis Cup from the Crouch Yacht Club on Sunday. Mantra, the Aphrodite 101 was helmed by Colin Harris. Double Trouble, Duncan Haley's Corby 29 was helmed at the start by Tony Hall, mid section by your Clifton Warry, and the last run by Martyn Randall. Sapphire was helmed by Ron Nicolls.
Colin Harris got a superb start, bang on the line, with Double Trouble and Sapphire a little way behind. The boats had a fair tide beat up to Raypits, and after the gun, Double Trouble and Sapphire soon pulled back at the lower rated Mantra. Sapphire sailed under Double Trouble, but by the start of Essex Marina Tony Hall had sailed into the lead. Mantra and Sapphire exchanged tacks before Sapphire got ahead. Double Trouble led for the remainder of the race, with Mantra getting through Sapphire by Lands End. Mantra finished second under spinnaker, with Sapphire sailing in under white sails.
On corrected time, Double Trouble won, with Mantra sailed by Colin Harris four minutes behind. Sapphire sailed by Ron Nicolls third. All three helm of Double Trouble collected the trophy from Sally Harbott.
