Island Sailing Club Evening Race Series - Day 5

More than 50 boats came to the starting area for the 5th race of the Island Sailing Club Evening Race Series. With the expected departure of the largest cruise liner in the world leaving Southampton on trials the courses were set to reduce the amount of boats in the Precautionary Area. After last week's racing being cancelled due to fog the SW wind being forecast with 10-14 knots of breeze looked to make an excellent sailing evening.
With some competitors still coming to terms with the strong back eddy that the new breakwater produces the starts were full of thrills.
The starts were towards the west for a short beat along Cowes seafront then the course took the fleets to the east with spinnaker runs and white sail reaches. The race concluded with a beat to the lap line and then a shorter triangle to finally finish.
One boat that got all the pundits looking for the history book was the fine win in class 4 of "Brassed Off" sailed by Paul Walker who won by 5 mins on corrected time, no need for the navigation lights this week!
