Sailors from across the world will be gathering in Lyme Regis next month to take part in the Kangaroo Poo sponsored Albacore International Sailing Regatta.

Entries for the Kangaroo Poo Albacore Internationals have reached 65 with six weeks to go before the first race. The championship which incorporates the UK National Championships is being hosted by Lyme Regis Sailing Club. Competitors from five countries will race a nine race series to decide the International Championship.

Favourites among the 65 entries include current Albacore International champions Barney Harris and David Byron from the USA as well as multiple Albacore championship-winning helm Mike McNamara with his crew Robin Barker. A dark horse for the event must be local International 14 builder Chris Turner of Specialised Marine who has built a new boat especially for the championships.

The surf lifestyle clothing company Kangaroo Poo is sponsoring the International Regatta for the first time. “We are delighted to be supporting this big event” said Kangaroo Poo Managing Director Gary Wells “It has a competitive edge combined with a lot of fun. Our clothes are designed for active outdoor pursuits and sailing captures that lifestyle perfectly. Any event that combines high octane sailing with a Caribbean evening, Steel Band, Beach Games, Tug of War, Race night and a Barn Dance has to be worth supporting!”

The host club are also planning a strong showing with eleven entries including the current Commodore of the club and many of his committee. Another Lyme sailor Colin Walters, the Albacore National Champion in 1966, is competing in boat 1547 which was built 3 years before his Nationals win.

As well as title sponsors Kangaroo Poo; Lyme Regis Sailing Club is pleased to welcome TEAM Group West Country Estate Agents, Hooke Farm, and Specialized Marine as sponsors for the event.

Further details on the championships which run from the 2nd - 9th September 2005 can be found at www.championships-at-lyme.org.uk
