In December 2014 Notts County Sailing Club signed a new 30 year lease – allowing year round sailing for the first time since the club moved to Hoveringham Lake in the early 1990s. What better way to celebrate than by hosting the 5th Midland ITCA training day? The club was described as "a great place to sail" by National Squad member Eleanor Cranfield.
In contrast to the weather at Hollowell a couple of weeks before the day provided near perfect conditions with wind of 12-15 knots and warm sunshine for the 24 sailors.
As always with the Midland ITCA training there was a wide age and ability range in the fleet with those attending their first event sailing alongside national squad sailors. The turn out was particularly impressive as the National Intermediate Squad were training at Rutland the same weekend.
The coaches Mark Jackson, Adam Millington & Ben Julian concentrated on mark rounding and sailing by the lee. The conditions meant it was possible to keep the whole fleet tightly packed ensuring mass mark roundings and plenty of hailing.
"The mark rounding was busy, I had to concentrate a lot!" said Notts County sailor Kayla Simmonds.
Midlands ITCA winter training is open to all Topper sailors regardless of age and experience, and aims to develop the sailor's skills in a fun and supported environment. The next training day will be at Manor Park Sailing Club on Saturday 11th April. The cost is £25 and if you would like to take part please email Annie Bhoghal, .
