Clipper Round the World Yacht Race - Leg 2 Predictions

The front runners of the twelve-strong matched fleet of 70 foot ocean racers competing in the Clipper 2013-14 Round the World Yacht Race will arrive in V&A Waterfront, Cape Town tomorrow (Saturday 26 October).

After racing nearly 4,000 miles from Rio de Janeiro the many South African crew aboard Invest Africa are closing in on the current leader GREAT Britain, just 30 miles ahead. The race to Cape Town will draw to a close in front of the spectacular backdrop of Table Mountain.

After a slow start to Race 3 of the 16 race global series, Invest Africa made a triumphant come back climbing its way up the leader board from twelfth place to second, and will be doing all it can to challenge GREAT Britain for first place, while keeping a close eye on Henri Lloyd which is just 10 miles behind in third position.

Skipper of Invest Africa, Rich Gould, commented in today's log: "As a team we are working as hard as we can to try and catch GREAT Britain whilst also trying to shake Henri Lloyd off our tail. With the mileage we have left between us and Cape Town a lot could still happen!

"For now it looks like we have managed to out run the ridge of high pressure that seems to be plaguing some of the fleet that are slightly further South West of us, I'm just hoping we manage to maintain this progress."

In addition to a number of South African crew, Invest Africa is also hosting the Sapinda Rainbow tag team of young people in a project supported by the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.
