Royal Lymington Yacht Club Dinghy Potter Race - Preview

by Kirsty Timmis 19 Aug 2013 20:38 BST 24 August 2013

The Royal Lymington Yacht Club is delighted to announce that Solent House Dental Centre will be sponsoring our first ever Potter Dinghy Race.

The race takes place on Saturday 24th August to include the following dinghy classes: PY Fast, PY Medium, PY Slow, & Lymington River Scows and it will follow a similar format to the Club's keelboat Potter Ship race. The dinghies will all race on the same course using average lap scoring and all starting from the same start line at the same time.

Lymington-based Dental Centre, Solent House, is one of the leading dental practices on the South Coast and they are continually broadening their range of care for both local and visiting clients. We are very pleased to be working with them once again to make this new event a classic in the dinghy calendar.

Don Mackenzie, Partner at Solent House Dental Centre said: "We are very pleased to sponsor the first ever Potter Dinghy Race. Dinghy racing epitomises the fact that sailing is for all - not just the few and the Royal Lymington has been at the forefront of making sailing accessible with its ground breaking Junior Sailing programme. We very much hope that the local sailing community will embrace this new event and that it goes on to become as prestigious and as well supported as its big boat sister race".

Chris Neve, Rear Commodore Sailing, commented for the Club, 'Responding to our dinghy sailors' requests for their own Potter Race, the Club is delighted to be able to run this first event. We hope that like the keelboat event, this race for dinghies will become a firm fixture in the calendar."
