The 2nd event on ‘The Cock of the North’, Speed Sails sponsored series went to sunny Rotherham seeing shorties come out for the first time this season. The revival continues both new and returning faces. Helen Gray and Claire Bailey / Brian Garrison and Tim Elliot both in teams in new boats ready for the inlands next week and already pre entered for the Nationals in Tenby; set to be a big one! Get your name down early; contact Bob Southworth on 02380456977

The first race started with Martin Honner and Simon Haighton getting a cracking start chased hard by Brian Garrison / Tim Elliot followed by Tim and Salty.

Rotherham being Rotherham it’s not over till the ‘Fat Lady Sings’ but Tim and Salty couldn’t catch Martin and Simon sailing a faultless race.

An excellent meal put on by the clubs catering team. Chicken Casserole and Bread and Butter Pudding for a bargain price of £2.50! What a great Sailing Club!

Race two started with Martin leading the way to a crowded first mark rounding just in front of Tim and Salty right up his transom, a gust and Tim headed up and managed to get over the top of Martin and into the lead.

Martin and Simon managed to get past Tim and Salty taking advantage of the shifty conditions on one of the beats only to have a miner hick up on the finish line letting Tim and Salty though to win Martin 2nd Brian 3rd and Peter Bayliss in 4th

Race three and a mass of boats trying to get a pin end start and not enough room on the pin end. left Tim and Salty enough time to just scrap into the lead followed by Peter Bayliss and Gail Donald. Martin and Simon fought hard and were making up ground rapidly after a bad start but couldn’t catch Tim and Salty.

Thanks to Rotherham Sailing Club for putting on such a well organised and superb event and hope to see you all this weekend at Rutland Water for the Inland Championships 30th April - 1st May
