22-28 July 2011
Sailed in Hayling bay 22nd – 28th July the Flying 15 World Championships 2011 were won convincingly by Graham Vials and Chris Turner using the latest spar development from Seldén Masts.
One of the lighter teams sailing in the championship, Graham and Chris worked closely with the team at Seldén in making their spar selection, settling on the Alto section as a slightly softer option to suit their all up weight of 24 stone.
The Alto section was first introduced in 2007, a thicker walled version of the popular Cumulus section, it gives bend characteristics close to Epsilon fore and aft but gives a more dynamic response closer to the sideways characteristics of Cumulus. The mast is ideally suited to any Flying 15 teams under 25 stone.
The mast was combined with a P&B mainsail with an altered luff curve to suit the softer mast. Graham and Chris completed their spars with the standard Seldén 2633 boom section and 39mm carbon spinnaker pole.
All other teams in the top 10 used the standard Seldén Epsilon product and 2633 boom.
