Classic & Vintage dinghy annual pilgrimage to Roadford Lake

The Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association makes its annual pilgrimage to Roadford Lake Sailing Club, near Okehampton in Devon, for 3 days of champagne racing this weekend. After sailing you can drink champagne too, if you like, but the local ales also prove popular!

This long weekend of sailing, camping and barbecuing has been a “must do” CVRDA event for over a decade now, so why not pop down with your classic boat (anything designed before 1965 and built before 1985 is welcome, whether wood, GRP or even aluminium!), your tent and some bubbly and come and join us?

Andy Harris and Lyra Wade take Sondown Cup and Elizabeth Bowl Sunday May 18th was the Thames Series Merlin Rocket Open sponsored by Craftinsure for all ages of boat competing for the Sondown Cup (for the overall result) and the Elizabeth Bowl (for the first vintage boat in the last race). An unusual concern for the race team was the juvenile grey seal hogging the ramp A beautiful day, Saturday 17th May, met the eight entrants for the Merlin Rocket Vintage Series open sponsored by Craftinsure at Tamesis, battling for the Southcott and Porteous Cups (Southcott for the overall, Porteous for the winner of the last race). Hitting a mark is one thing, setting up camp on it is something else altogether After a testing, not to say bruising opening day for the Lowrider Moths at Stone Sailing Club the concerns were that Day 2 would be the same but colder. The scows, although not the quickest, looked to be having the best fun down the reaches As many of the early arrivals to Stone Sailing Club considered getting an early practice sail in, some of the wiser minds stayed in the bar as the conditions were hardly welcoming.
