Datchet Water Sailing Club Skiff Series - Days 1 & 2

by Sam Nicholls 30 Nov 2010 16:43 GMT 31 October & 28 November 2010

Great start to series

They've sailed through sun rain snow ice and they keep coming back for more. The skiffs are really causing a stir at Datchet Water SC having sailed 4 fantastically close races in fairly light winds.

The club’s skiff series takes place on 7 Sundays over the winter alongside the club racing, providing a lively racing area on the Queen Mother reservoir.

Races 1 & 2 saw 33 competitors across 4 starts. Nick Charles and Chris Martin proved their speed and held the lead all the way around after flying past Joe Snowdon & Sam Nicholls who seem to always lead of the start.

The fleet really shone on the second weekend when races 3 & 4 saw a large skiff fleet dominated by RS800s. The winning spot was this time shared by series leaders Nick & Chris and new rivals David Hivey & James Stewart with the remaining 8s 49ers 29ers and Laser4000 very close in a mid fleet bunch.

With a large number of other skiffs entered for the rest of the series this looks set to be a popular one.
